Hi Bob,
You probably don't remember me, I'm the teacher from Groton making the biggest book in the world on peace with my students? We are still working on it and hope to get it done in the near future. I am also connected to the Bull Run, my sister has just bought the place from my brother and sister in law Dolores. I was wondering about your health and how you are doing? The last I heard you were diagnosed with a tumor? I am a two time breast cancer survivor and my husband has cancer as well. I must be your biggest fan, I love your music. Just woke up and had to listen to a few of your tunes to start my day. You are such a wonderfully gifted talent. I can only hope you are well and wanted you to know that I think about you and love your music.

Hello, I grew up on a few farms in Southern Indiana. My brother and I loved Midwest Farm Disaster. We still do. He gave me a copy of it a few years back. I listen to all the time. Love your music and stories that you tell. Thanks for everything. Joy

I first heard Midwest Farm Disaster in
1976. I was delighted to find the cd on Amazon. I don't understand why Bob Martin is not a name that is recognized by the world. Love that Bob Martin! Now that I have found him again I plan on buying all of his cd's and his novel too. I never tire of all the songs on Midwest Farm Disaster and play it constantly.

Bob,
I taught a bilingual 1st grade at Pawtucketville Elementary for one year. I think it was 1997/1998. I was the guy who bought a copy of "Midwest Farm Disaster" back in California many yeas prior and loved it. I am back on the west coast, Oregon to be exact. I was thinking about you and thought I'd look you up and see how you've been. Are you still living in Lowell? I've downloaded quite a few of the songs from your newer albums. I sure wish I could get the songs from "Farm Disaster" On a CD. It's still my favorite. Probably because it's the first time I heard you.
Write me and let me know what you've been up to.
Sincerely,
Brad Edwards

Hi there, You probably don't remember me, but I used to listen to you with Danny Martin. It was great to "find" you again and to hear your songs. I am in Montana, but they bring me right back to L-town. River turns the Wheel...Best wishes to you, Amanda

Bob, it was great finally seeing you perform live. Your stage presence was very strong. I first heard of you when Charles Laquidara played “My Father Painted Houses” on his short lived show on WBOS. I knew then that I had to hear more of your music right then. I downloaded a few of your songs from iTunes and loved most of what I heard. I had my family listen to your music too and they seem to like it as much as do. We were all there last night and enjoyed the show. Joan Baez was good too, but we were really there to hear you. Thanks for the great performance.

Bob, You were my most favorite teacher as Nashoba high school and would love to hear from you. I have been living in the mid-west forever it seems and have one of your cds. I play music myself with my harmonicas, violin, and guitars. Love to here from you if you ever get out this way. If you are having a hard time remembering me I came to your house to go pheasant hunting at 4:30 in the morning with ricky kuntz when we were seniors at Nashoba in 1971. Does that help. I will never forget you and your stories in class such as the pocket knive that droped through the floor in your kitchen when you were a kid and disapeared. Do you remember telling us that story? Love ya man. Chris Pastick

Bob,
I was turned on to MidwesT Farm Diaster back in the 70's by a professor in school. I, in turn , shared the treasure with others. Many a night i would listen to those songs that would dig deep in your soul and wonder where they came from. Lost my copy and was never able to locate another or any info about you. About 5 years ago I was telling a young guy who was a collector of records about that album describing the cover with that massive hog and relating the lyrics o f some of those songs"mama says the new ones don"t fit the way they should". He was able to get me a vinyl copy of M.F. D. It was like running into an old friend who always saw things the way you did. GOd bless you Bob and thank you for sharingyour gifts. I would like to be informed of any new stuff and of places you might perform.
An old freind

It is my profound honor to be privy to the most significant announcement of the summer of 2009. On July 31, 2009 Bob Martin and Joan Baez will appear on the same stage as the most significant concert ever in the Lowell Summer Music Series. Kudos to John Marciano for having the vision and fortitude to assmble this seminal event. In every sense, it is a night of Lyrical Legends as Bob, the greatest songwriter and lyricist of his time, appears with the legend and spirit of her genre.
This is the night that transforms music into high art. Although I will be four thousand miles away preparing for Opening Day at the Anchorage Market and Festival, my heart and soul will be with Bob and Ann as history is made, and the pinnacle is reached.

What's up with "I found this album in the cut-out bin with a guy on a pig, so I bought it"??? ditto for me in the late 70's. Someone thought Bob's voice was a cross between Dylan and Joe Walsh...hmmm.
After many years my album warped and was pretty much unplayable, I was sad. The internet was invented and I found Bob had 2 more CD's out...I was much happier! But still yearned for Blind Marie and " Grandpa was licking whisky from a puddle on the floor". Those lyrics just kill me.
I just ordered the MFD CD can't wait...hope the CD doesn't wear out.
Bob, thanks for your musicianship and songwriting...you are tops on my list.
Michael
April 2, 2009
In the late 70's I picked up MFD. I recognized a lot of names associated, musicians, the producer. All top notch. But it was the songwriting that really stood out. Some friends described Bob's voice as a cross between Dylan and Joe Walsh! The songs just grew on me over the years but the LP warped and I was sad.
Picked up the last 2 CD's and that made me happy...for a while. Within minutes of discovering the re-relase of MFD I ordered it. Can't wait to hear Blind Marie (with out the warbles), and especially about "Grandpa licking whisky from a puddle on the floor". That lyric/mental image just kills me.
Bob, you are the shortlist of my all time favorite musican/songwriters. Please keep getting your music out!

I would like to say I enjoy your music. I only heard it for the first time last night after someone on a job site had me listen to one of your songs. Ya see ,I'm a painter and my father was a master painter before me.The job I'm on is a house that my father painted in 1958 when it was built . I'm now 62 and started painting with my father when I was 14. To hear "My Father Painted Houses" freaked me and my wife (who is also a first class painter for 24 years)out.Painting is our life. It is the story of my life almost to a T and the way it was when I painted with my father. I was wondering how you came up with the words to that song. My father passed away 35 years ago and because of the business I think about him every day. This song is like you were walking in my shoes.Almost all of the words of the song relates to my life and the way I felt when I finally left my father in the late 60's to work on my own. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has told you that , but I AM THAT GUY ! We would love to see you perform sometime . We live in Dartmouth Ma but would go to Lowell or Haverill to see you. Thanks. The Painter, Dave Rosa

I started listening to your music when I was 18, which was shortly after you released "The River Turns the Wheel". Born in bred in Lowell, I lived in a dormitory at UMass Lowell at that time, and my room overlooked the Merrimack River. The winter I discovered your talent, I started this ritual where I would open my windows at the end of the day, and blast "The River Turns the Wheel" at full volume. It proved to be the perfect soundtrack for the sun setting over the river. Corny perhaps, but quite true. Thank you for creating such beautiful music - I can see and smell those Merrimack River sunsets whenever I listen to it, no matter where I am!

I recently heard that Bob wrote a song about the house I grew up in with my Uncle Denny (AKA Beaver) Would love to learn more about this song and how I can purchase it -- my house that I lived in for 25 years was on Loring St. in Lowell. Have been listening to some of your songs on-line Bob and I love them, brings back a lot of memories.

HI Bob
Sorry to hear that the touring is done. Hope you can make an appearance somewhere. I have dug your stuff since the early 70s. The "man on the pig" album is one of my great treasures. It hangs in a moisture and temp controlled box with my other "non-replaceable albums"
Wishing you good health and much joy

Bob, you and I have crossed paths many times. I'm the idiot who always yells for 'Blind Marie'. I was there at Tom Gills birthday party along with my life long frien and music mate Rich Kelley. He was lucky enough to score a couple of tickets for your show at the Bull Run. Alas I didn't have the money at the time. If I had known this was to be your last show, I would have found a way to be there. Sandy and Rich both said it was a great show. I wish you the very best in all that you do. Say Hi to Ann for me, and should you get the bug to do a little show from time to time, let me know.

I saw you a few years ago at a Pepperell mini-folk festival and I've really enjoyed your music since. Salisbury Beach has got to be my favorite song. I too was in bands that played Salisbury beach's Playboy club (remember that place?) in the 70's. You music takes me back to those days. Thanks for sharing your talent. I'm glad to see your songs are available on iTunes now. I'm going to get your most recent CD.

On Saturday Night, November 22, 2008, we come full circle in the odessy of Bob Martin and his profound contribution to music, lyrics and poetry. For those of us who were there from the beginning, his abilities and performance as a composer were absolutely contagious, and gave inspiration to an entire generation of songwriters. Now Comes the pinnacle, the final performance memorialized in a live recording. If the term "kick out the jams" ever meant anything, it could not be more cogent as applied to a performance where Bob sheds the sterility and constraints of studio recording for a complete rendition of what he delivers best.Like all of the other pages in his book of time, it will be the peronification of excellence that is every endeavor he has undertaken. I owe him the most, and will be forever thankful forthe best mentor one could ever have in music.

How is everything? Well I hope. I was very sad to have missed your show in Thomas, Wv. It ruined my whole month. Good friends of mine Jay and Patty McCracken were there and Jay still loves to tell the story of meeting you. We all still love to hear it also. I wish I could have made the trip but another time I hope. I love all of your music but my favorite album is your first. Midwest Farm Disaster. All the songs on the album take me through the highs and lows of my life. I am a music fanatic. Music gets me through every day and your music is among my favorite. I try to teach myself Old Rass on guitar but am hoplessly lost. Wondering if you could tip me off as to the chording or somthing. If you cant I understand, you sing it best anyway. Hope to hear from you.

Anyway, sounds great according to Paul and I can't wait to read it -- let us know when it gets published. Talk of the book led to a lot of reminiscing over the weekend...:) (Christ! Midwest Farm Disaster is back;
some of the best news this century! The CD reissue sounds obviously sourced from an LP or acetate, and here in the Age of Remastering I wonder why it couldn't be sourced from the original master tapes? Still, as a means of exposing more people to this fine music it'll do just fine.

I am ecstatic! I have carried the songs of the Midwest Farm Disaster from coast to coast and coast to coast and on again. I had no idea I could find the music again. Lost my album and home cassettes years ago. But I remembered whole songs and parts of others. Road through the midwest in 75 by bicycle and saw it right up front. Been homeless three times since '72 but doing real good for some time now, but do not forget for one minute hwere I've been. I lkisten to that vocie and those words and I know you know where you've been, too. I started from Gloucester but our family went down with the fish. Moved a lot but always came back to Mass. Now on the edge of the Berkshires. You should hear my brook. See you in Shelburne.

It was 1973. I was working for a women's discount clothing store named Pic'n Save upstairs from McQuade's Department Store in downtown Lowell. We had a huge speaker faced out the window and played albums in an attempt to gain customers. One day, in comes this beautiful woman with a smile on her face telling us about her husband who just came out with an album, Midwest Farm Disaster. She offered the album to us to play. That woman was Ann Marie and her husband is Bob Martin. I still have that album and have played it over and over and over again over these last (gulp) 25 years. And I think I have all of the music Bob has put out since then. For many years I have been wishing that one day Midwest Farm Disaster would be reissued as a CD and today I find my wish has been granted. So so happy. Thank you, Ann Marie for introducing me to the music and thank you, Bob, for who you are and what you do so well.

Happy to hear about your successful wring/singing career.Always knew you possessed the talent and ambition to pursue and succeed. It wa quite evident when you experimented with various vocals and lyrics (back then it was Doo Wop if I recall correctly)in the alley way between Zud Kludjian's apartment and Beaver McGadden's house. I plan on being at the Brewery Exchange to honor the rerelease of your classic "Midwest Farm Disaster". Hopefully, some of the other Page's usual suspects ( Dave, John, Gary,Crow,Brian Kenny etc. ) will be there to celebrate your time in the sun.

The re-release of "Midwest Farm Disaster" brings us full circle and is a monumental accomplishment for my mentor and the man who is to songwriting what Kerouac was to literature. I am looking at the original 33 and am reminded of how many of them I wore out learning to write music. Now the youngsters have the original to inspire yet another generation to create images in song. All of us who were there and who experienced Martin's Farm see our youth restored again. Thank God for Bob Martin.

In 1972 my friend gave me "Midwest Farm Disaster" to listen to. Seems as though my friend Buck had an interest in Bob but was telling me the people at RCA were putting more energy into Bob Dylan. I was blown away by the lyrics and the raw music. Today, 30 years or more since I put the album away, I dug it out to digitize it for my ipod. It was just as I remembered it, real and gritty. After listening again I put Bob Martin on Google and lo and behold Riversong tells me that the Midwest Farm Disaster will be released as a CD today, November 17, 2007. What are the odds on that. I was thinking about Bob Martin all morning today and this is the day. I haven't thought about him for over 30 years. WOW.

Midwest Farm Disaster ruined my life. It was the first. But ya can't have just one. Had to try a little Steve Goodman, which led to Jerry Jeff, and finally the hard stuff - John Prine. It's been a monkey on my back for over 30 years. And a sh-t eating grin on the puss. Still tryin' for the original high. The original LP was lost in Katrina. Waiting on the CD. I need my fix man!

I have a copy of the "Midwest Farm Disaster" LP that I cherish dearly. One of my dad's friends left it at our house after a party one night when I was a kid, and I never let it go. Any chance that this album and "Last Chance Rider" will ever be available on CD? Your newer stuff is great, but I really like the old stuff too!

Thanks for the music. As a fellow Lowellian, whose Father painted houses, your stuff really hits home. Looking forward to new music and a show...

I'm so excited about the new site -the shows - everything! Since being introduced to your music a few years back I've become a huge fan! Having purchased your last two CDs at your BullRun show, I went on a hunt to find the first two albums - and I'm happy to say I did and love them both! Your work is amazing, thank you so much!

Please ask T. to include Matin in her name on the website (in the interest of full disclosure). I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE RE-RELEASES OF THE TWO L.P.s

I discovered Bob Martin’s music by what you might call a ”freak accident”. I had bought a record by Bob Mosley (of Moby Grape fame) on ebay but when I received the package it contained Midwest Farm Disaster. I contacted the seller and he admitted a mistake and would compensate me if i shipped the record to whoever had won the Bob Martin auction. Though before I did that I made a tape copy of the album and immediately fell in love with it. Now I’m looking forward to a re-release of MFD and I’m going to order all the other albums as well. Thank you for the music!

Quite a journey in '06 Bob. Please tell us something about your book. Since first hearing you at Cappy's in Lowell at the Kerouac festival some years ago, "The River Turns The Wheel" has become a constant comfort. Truly a beautiful creation... I hope it brings you as much joy as it brings me.

I'm living in Sweden and I really love your music.
Midwest farm disaster is on such a great album. After I heard it I bought the rest of your albums on the net. I even found the "Last chance rider" album. I really love them all.
Would it be possible for you to come and play in Sweden?
I would be glad to help you out in any way on that one.
Peace
